Discount Wine Cellars Smells Spring in a White Zinfandel

White Zinfadel has, in the past, offered me a kind of reliable standby when choosing wine for a gathering or gift. Not too sweet, yet not so dry as to put hair on one’s chest. A beautiful blush color in varying shades: pretty to look at in the glass. While White Zinfadel may not be a long wine cellar keeper, why would it? In my opinion, White Zinfadel is an easy drinking wine to take out and share with friends over appetizers or while on the patio watching the stars come out (when it’s a  warm spring or summer evening, let’s be perfectly clear). In fact, the aromas of vanilla and strawberry made imagine that Spring is underway.
I discovered with my recent taste of Woodbridge Sauvignon Blanc that this particular winery does things differently. I must admit I kind of like the added punch to this White Zinfadel which makes other varieties I’ve tried seem like juvenile attempts to be grown-up. In particular, this wine has an aroma I could sit and smell without drinking a drop. Vanilla and strawberry meet with the sharpness of grapefruit.
Okay, I won’t go so far as to say I wouldn’t drink, because the deep nectarine-colored liquid called to me. A first taste took me by surprise: a touch of oak makes the Woodbridge White Zinfadel dryer than the examples I have tried before accounting for that punch I mentioned. Subtle hints of strawberry bear out their presence in the nose, lingering slightly in this fruit concoction that will not trickle down my drain.
Just be ready for the kick: at only 10.5% you may think this is a watery imposter, but don’t be fooled. This wine has legs.
