Try putting ‘Pixar Animation Studio’ and ‘wine cellar’ in the same sentence. If that sounds oxymoronic, the parent in you is vetting. I couldn’t credit it either. There’s no natural extension from, say, ‘UP!’, to taking a break for a glass of wine.
The films, however, reflect imagination and inspiration which flow from a love of life if the Lasseter Family ‘Cathedral of Wines’ provides any kind of clue. The found of Pixar and his wife, John and Nancy Lasseter, love wine so much they had Josh Rowland design a whole house around the theme. Nancy took some ideas from the ironwork at the New Orleans Garden District. Another touch of genius is the secret door which looks like a wine rack, hiding a secret button. The Lasseter home provides the muse for author Samantha Nestor who, with Alice Fering, wrote ‘Living with Wine’ about this amazing home.
The Lasseters also own a vineyard, ‘Lasseter Family Vineyards’, which feature a Syrah Rose and two Reds.
So, next time you watch Toy Story or Monsters Inc. and wish you had the imagination to come up with something like that, perhaps consider getting yourself a good bottle of wine? Maybe a Lasseter Red.
