California, so well known for its wines, can also boast enough sunshine to make installation of any solar energy collection device worthwhile. In the case of J. Lohr Winery, they have made use of the sun with a solar tracking device. Why not use the sun’s energy, since it has a lot to give and it’s there anyway? J. Lohr is also participation in the Earth Day Food and Wine Festival which aims to promote sustainable wine practices. Funds will support this goal. The event, taking place April 16-19, will feature ’sustainably produced, award-winning food’ plus Californian wine (not just J. Lorh.) If you like J. Lorh’s wine, such as their Cuvee series or a Petite Syrah, consider attending their barrel tasting sneak peek of the 2009 harvest on April 16th for $15 per/person. Sounds like a good way to plan your wine rack for 2010. If learning from the winery’s red winemaker, Steve Peck, does not delight you, take in cooking demonstrations, vineyard tours, live music and more during the weekend. Just think, celebrating Earth Day by drinking wine…I was just going to turn my lights out for an hour, but maybe now I’ll light a candle and share a bottle with my hubby while watching the stars.
