I got an exciting e-mail today from Wild Goose Wineries in Okanaga Falls, BC. Nothing personal, just an e-newsletter telling me their 2009 wines were ready for purchase. Still, good news for wine lovers looking to stock up their wine racks for the summer.
Their list includes three types of Riesling, Gewurztraminer, Pinot Gris and more. Wild Goose has also earned numerous gold and silver medals from the likes of Northwest Summit Wine Awards and The Canadian Wine Championships.
They produce Autumn Gold variety, a semi-dry produced from a blend of whites balanced out with some grape juice. Expect rose, apple and pear. From this award winner, or sample a Blanc de Noir, blending Merlot and Pinot Noir for a blush available only in some years. Look out also for the Black Brant, a port-style dessert wine made from Marachel Foch. Aged for almost a year, residual sugar exceeds 25%.
The winery makes visiting a very attractive and easy prospect, offering juice at the tasting counter for under-aged family members, a picnic area, wheelchair access and an amply supplied gift shop.
I won’t be going today, maybe sometime soon. In the meantime, I’ll simply look out for more exciting mail. Oh, how pathetic I sound….
